Special Projects
ESS also supports a few projects in response to special requests which are often initiated by sponsors interested in funding particular activities in certain schools or rural districts. These have included tree planting projects for schools in Gansu and Neimenggu; a soya bean workshop and pig farm in Fuping County, Hebei; and art and skills training for girls in specially poor counties in Gansu.
In some cases, emergencies or serious calamities have demanded immediate attention and support. In 2008, in the aftermath of the catastrophic earthquake in Sichuan, ESS pulled together special donations which were used to acquire and set up multimedia equipment in Beichuan, one of the disaster areas, so that school communities in temporary shelters could continue to receive information and education.
